Spirit in Mexico

October 28-November 3, 2020

There’s magic in Mexico and we want to be a part of it. Our retreat begins in captivating Mexico City, described by Lonely Planet as, “the sun in the Mexican solar system.” We’ll spend our first two nights at a boutique luxury hotel in charming Polanco, an upscale international neighborhood known for its museums, galleries, and restaurants. Our time in CDMX will center around the robust culinary scene and will include a trip to Museo Frida Kahlo. Designated time will be set aside to honor your personal desires, from exploring the city’s art and anthropological scene, to shopping, to enjoying some quiet time at our hotel.

On our third day, we will make our way to Tepoztlán, a historic mountain town just 50 miles south of Mexico City known for its lush green cliffs, magical craft market, and creative energetic vibration. According to Mesoamerican legend, Tepoztlán is the birthplace of Quetzalcóatl, the Aztec plumed serpent god. Our time in Tepoztlán is centered around nature. Highlights include fresh air meditations, a hike to the ancient pyramid, El Tepozteco, walks through Pueblo Magico, traditional dining experiences, a full moon ceremony, and taking part in the festivities of Dia de Muertos.

Every detail of this retreat has been planned with care and pride. Our teacher, Carmen Guerrero Falcon, is a Mexico City native and is thrilled to share her homeland with you.

Questions and Answers

  1. What airport do I fly into?

You will fly into the Mexico City International Airport (MEX) which is located about a 30 minute drive from our hotel in Polanco, Mexico City. When you arrive, a private driver will greet you just outside of baggage claim. Katya and Carmen will greet you at our hotel and help with check in.

  1. Do I need a visa to visit Mexico?

No, you do not need a visa to visit Mexico. You must have a valid passport to enter the country.

  1. What are expenses like in Mexico City and Tepoztlán?

Like in many destinations, costs for meals and shopping span a notable range. We encourage setting aside at least $500 for lunches, shopping, and other activities (massages, museum entrance tickets, etc.)

  1. Will there be free time?

Yes! Each day there will be designated free time to honor your personal retreat. You may wish to go for a dip in the pool, stroll along the beach, explore local cafes and shops, go scuba diving, or spend time relaxing in solitude. We send out additional excursion recommendations in the weeks leading up to the retreat.

  1. What are the accommodations like?

Both our hotel in Mexico City and our hotel in Tepoztlán are rated as 4 star properties. Our first two nights are spent in a charming boutique hotel in the upscale neighborhood of Polanco, where leafy streets are lined with cafes, shops, and restaurants. This hotel unites the highly personalized service of a luxury hotel with the warmth and harmony of a Mexican home. Nestled in the hills of Tepoztlán, we will spend four nights in a luxury hotel surrounded by lush gardens and Nature’s splendor.

  1. If I am traveling alone can I still share a room with someone?

Yes. If you are traveling on your own and would prefer to share a room, we will do our best to match you with a roommate of the same gender. If we are unable to match you with a roommate, a single private room supplement will apply.

  1. What is the itinerary like?

Once you register, you will receive an email that includes a detailed itinerary, packing list, and recommendations for free time activities. Yoga is typically offered twice daily. Days with structured excursions alternate with days designed with more open time. Retreat guests may participate in as much or as little of the itinerary as they like. This is your retreat.
