Just south of Naples, Italy’s dramatic Amalfi Coast is a sweeping 50-kilometer stretch of breathtaking coastline. Below the mountains and above the sea, rugged cliffs and picturesque fishing villages comprise this captivating destination.
Our retreat takes place in a private villa in the hills of Maiori, a fishing town in the Salerno province that has been a popular vacation destination since Roman times. In addition to twice daily yoga and/or meditation, our trip includes a boating trip to Capri, a day trip to Positano, a cooking class + wine tasting, daily breakfast, four dinners, and a meticulously planned itinerary that offers a balance of structured activities and free time for your personal retreat. Exploring nearby Roman archeological sites, hiking the Path of the Gods, visiting Villa Rufolo’s Arab Gardens, and luxuriating in our villa are a few of many free time options during our time in Amalfi.
Fresh Italian cuisine, sweeping sea views, rich historical and cultural experiences, and time devoted to deepening your practice are touchstones of this week-long retreat.
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
1. What airport do I fly into?
You will fly into the Naples International Airport (NAP) which is located about an hour and thirty minute drive from our villa in Maiori. When you arrive, a driver will be waiting for you at the airport. If you prefer to fly into Rome (FCO) we can arrange transportation for an additional $250. The drive from Rome is about three hours long. Trains from Rome are also an option that we can help arrange. Katya (retreat leader) and Stephanie (yoga teacher) will greet you at our villa when you arrive.
2. Do I need a visa to visit Italy?
No, you do not need a visa to visit Italy. However, your passport must be valid for at least six months after your planned departure date.
3. What are expenses like in Amalfi?
Like in many destinations, costs for meals and shopping span a notable range. We encourage setting aside at least $500 for meals, shopping, and other activities.
4. Will there be free time?
Yes! Each day there will be designated free time to honor your personal retreat. You may go for a dip in the pool, take an excursion to a nearby village, walk down our private beach access to natural grottos, explore local cafes and shops, or spend time relaxing in solitude. We will send an email with free time recommendations and contact information once you’ve registered.
5. What are the accommodations like?
Our six bedroom, six bathroom private villa is rated as a 4.8 star property and sits in the middle of a 7.5 acres private estate that runs from the Amalfitan road all the way to the sea. It is surrounded by lemon, orange and olive orchards, that together with Bougainvillea in a gently terraced landscape, create a classic Mediterranean atmosphere. It is beautifully furnished and features an infinite pool that overlooks the sea, which you can reach by private beach access from our villa.
6. If I am traveling alone can I still share a room with someone?
Yes. If you are traveling on your own and would prefer to share a room, we will do our best to match you with a roommate. All matched roommates will identify as the same gender. If we are unable to match you with a roommate, a single supplement will apply.
7. What is the itinerary like?
Once you register, you will receive an email that includes a detailed itinerary, packing list, and recommendations for free time activities. Each day typically begins with yoga and includes an afternoon/evening yoga/meditation session. Days with structured excursions alternate with days designed with more open time. Retreat participants may participate in as much or as little of the itinerary as they like. This is your retreat.
8. How do meals work?
Daily continental breakfast is included in the retreat. Guests have access to the kitchen at all times and may fix themselves breakfast, lunch, or snacks whenever they please. Four dinners are included: One dinner cooked by a chef at the villa, one dinner as part of the cooking class, and two dinners at excellent local restaurants. Retreat participants typically eat breakfast and dinner together.
